Mod note on 'How do I stop obsessing about arguments I've had with my sister?'
Removed one comment which was addressed to another commenter and not the OP, while explicitly saying they had no answers for the OP.
Folks, please focus your comments on helping the OP with their question, and not so much on what other commenters are saying, unless the comment is something wildly or factually wrong, thanks!

Updated the date above to July 17th and deleted the comments pointing that out.
Mod note on 'Farewell to the Turbaned Torpedo'
Name in the tag fixed also, thanks for the reminder!
Mod note on 'USPolitics tag added, but why?'
jacquilynne: "Brandon reached out for more details on the specific posts I thought were a problem, so I assume they are at least considering a change in calibration, but I don't know if or when more details will be forthcoming."
Loup and I talked about the situation earlier today (I've been off a few days, thanks for your patience). The simple solution is for mods not to add the USPolitics tag unless it is specifically requested. But there will still be disagreements about what is political.
Hence the recommendation to occasionally look under a tag you've blocked, as tags are entirely user driven, so there's going to be some disagreement at times about how to tag something.
Folks can ask us to tag a post with a particular tag via email or flagging with a note.
Please note that the sidebar of USPolitics is not tag driven. A mod has to go into the post and click a checkmark button that then adds it to the sidebar. That might be a better way of handling things, aka mods putting what they or other users suggest as USPolitics without tagging the post itself. But people might get upset about their post being added to that, so it's still going to be grey area where people have different opinions.
We'll see how things go in terms of mods not tagging posts as USPolitics unless requested and see if we need to adjust anything on our end.

Another comment removed for complaining about the lack of deleted notes, when there was all of 3 minutes between the deletion and the note.
If you have complaints about the speed of notes, please take it to MetaTalk and avoid derailing the thread, thanks.

A couple of comments removed because they were more about personal taste preferences as opposed the OP's question.
Please keep answers focused on helping the OP, thanks!

St. Peepsburg: "(Mods pls correct the spelling of his first name
Fauja not Fajua)"
Done!
Mod note on 'Now, he has a desk in a sun-filled room'
seanmpuckett: "to be crystal clear, i am talking about violence, as applied to the apex capitalist class."
This is veering into going against MeFi's Content Policy regarding advocating for violence, which states "It can be okay to talk in strongly critical terms about people's words but don't cross the line into any threats of violence or wishing violence on other people."
If folks could move on from those comments and back to the article itself, that would be great.
No comments have been removed.
Mod note on 'Donโt make me turn this democracy around'
Balna Watya: "Lemkin, please stop posting the dumbest shit possible. We get it, you're a Republican, you hate Democrats. You don't need to tell us this 30 times a day."
This comment and some responses have been removed for attacking a member, but the original has been reproduced in its entirety for this mod note.
Once people start start doing personal attacks, derails and fighting often occur, so please do what you can to help up avoid those situations by focusing on what a person says and not the person, thanks.

Mod note on 'USPolitics tag added, but why?'
Hey, Brandon's on duty today, will be around, but mostly listening, but here's a few responses to things brought up since my last comment:
Posted about this MeTa in the mod slack and the use of CamelCase for tags. For the 'uspolitics' tag is there a preference for 'USPolitics' or 'UsPolitics'?
The mods are open recalibrating on this and how and when we add tags to posts. Have left a reminder to use CamelCase when adding tags with multiple words, but just fyi the tag that was added by a mod to the post in question was 'USPolitics']
mediareport: "The USPolitics tag has now been removed, though the mod who removed it apparently didn't feel it necessary to say anything, either here or in the original thread, so I guess we can just assume from here on the mods will be more careful about adding it, but it would be nice, especially given Brandon's dismissive reply above, if they said to members that they have indeed decided to be more careful using it in the future."
See this comment earlier in the thread for the OP mentioning they had removed the tag themselves, which is totally fine.
Members always have the ability to add or remove tags from their posts after the post as b

Mod note on 'TERF Island'
Neologian: "Note: Help maintain a healthy, respectful discussion by focusing comments on the
issues, topics, and facts at handโnot at other members of the site.
But you know, also don't read the article central to a post and cite it. Because sticking to the topic but not the narrative simply cannot be tolerated.
Are you SURE that it it the TERFs who are exclusionary?"
This comment was removed for being transphobic, but reproduced here to leave a public record of what was said and by who. Neologian has been permanently banned for doubling down on transphobic comments.
MetaFilter is not a site that tolerates the questioning of trans lives or people. Do not do that here or you will find yourself banned.
Mod note on 'USPolitics tag added, but why?'
Mods: how often are you adding this tag vs how often are users using it themselves, and what criteria are you using to decide?
No specific numbers. I'll add the tag if I think it needs to be added, based on the political football noticed in the news.
I do think it's a broad term and not everyone's definition will be the same. I'd recommend people occasionally looking under a blocked tag to see if they're missing something they might be interested in.

Let's all move on from that argument.
Mod note on 'Surgical center staff demand to see ICE warrant'
Mod note: USPolitics tag added.
Mod note on 'My Family and the Flood'
USPolitics tag added.
Mod note on 'TERF Island'
Yikes! One comment against the Content Policy deleted. rough ashlar has now been warned and banned for a week. Also, the subsequent comments have been deleted to avoid derails. Let's be clear, MeFi is not the place to echo common anti-transgender talking points and make inflammatory generalizations about a vulnerable group. This is potentially harmful rhetoric and will not be tolerated here.
Mod note on 'Caught in the privileges of their youths and the tragicomedies of their lives'
Post title corrected.
Mod note on 'The Six from SCOTUS Set Aside Judicial Review for ICE Detainees, For Now'
One comment removed at memberโs request. Thanks for self flagging that!
Mod note on 'Murderbot: Foreign Object'
One comment removed at memberโs request for revealing a spoiler for next episode. Thanks for self flagging that!
Mod note on 'I'm more of an ideas guy'
One comment removed for veering off into a discussion about AI. Please focus on helping the OP by answering the actual question that was asked. It's ok to skip the question if you don't know the answer..
Another comment removed for telling the OP to kiss their butt. That's not answering the question either, which is the main point of AskMe.

Mod note on 'Elon Musk's LLM goes full Nazi'

Mod note on 'Cook with a bird's eye view'
Added 'chatgpt' and 'ai' to the list of tags as the project was created with those tools.
Mod note on 'TERF Island'
Another comment derailing comment removed. Artw, you were warned about doing that, so take a week off from the site, because ignoring mod requests or warnings are consistent behavior of yours.
Mod note on 'TERF Island'
2 comments removed for continuing a derail.
As mentioned previously, folks can move on from that derail. They can take it to MeMail, email, or start a new MetaTalk thread, but definitely keep the "who said the vitriolic comment first" out of this thread. Comments that do so will be removed.
Mod note on 'TERF Island'
Artw, this comment of yours is derailing the thread with its attempt to decide how a person should feel about something you said and your name calling.
Please remove yourself from this thread and avoid the name calling in the future. If you keep making comments we may remove or issue a ban (temporary or otherwise)
Your comments have been left up for the public record of what was said. No comments have removed.
Everyone please move on from the derail.
Mod note on 'Deafness reversed: Single injection brings hearing back within weeks'
Fixed a typo in the comment from sickos haha yes dot.
Mod note on 'Is there a word for this?'
Two comments deleted. Remember that Ask MetaFilter comments should address the main question being asked, as per the content policy.
Mod note on 'Electric cars for USD20k? That's the plan'
Two deleted. At this point, the huge derailment needs to stop. If you have any feedback or concerns about the way this thread is going or how moderation is handled, you're welcome to email us. Please stop commenting and derailing the thread.
Mod note on 'Electric cars for USD20k? That's the plan'
Just a note that MeMailing users to argue/instigate a conflict is never OK. Please stop if you are doing this. If you're on the receiving end of such MeMails, please report those users/messages and we will look into it.
Mod note on 'Note about site being down for about an hour.'
Yes, the site was down for about two hours, but is back up now. Frimble is investigating why it happened.
Mod note on 'MOBOTOYS: The Museum Of Battery Operated Toys'
Fixed spelling of โvintageโ in post.

One comment removed at member's request.
Mod note on 'The Internet is for Extremism'
One comment removed at member's request.
Mod note on 'Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn's "The Gulag Archipelago"'
Two comments posted in the wrong thread removed. Please carry on.
Mod note on '$3.4 trillion debt'
Removed several comments about a mod action. Folks are free to take those comments to MetaTalk, but they need to stop being in and derailing this thread.
Also removed a comment and response telling someone to fuck off. The sentient is fine, but we ask that folks not tell others to fuck off as it encourages others to the same on other issues.
If folks want to talk about any of this, MetaTalk is the place to do it, not this thread. Thank you.
Mod note on '$3.4 trillion debt'
Robbyrobbs, take the week off for the anti-trans link. Do not do this again in any way shape or form on this site or you account will be removed. MetaFilter is pro leaving trans folk alone and letting them live their lives, so knock it off.
Mod note on 'Is there a word for this?'
One comment removed for injecting us politics into this thread.
Mod note on '$3.4 trillion debt'
Added to us politics sidebar

Mod note on 'The man from Del Monte, he say "bankruptcy"!'
Fixed that first link.
Mod note on 'Ironheart: Take Me Home'
One comment removed for bringing up something that occurs in thr second episode. Please stick to discussing the current or earlier episodes in FanFare threads that are going episode by episode.
Mod note on 'To make out of apparently haphazard circumstances a plotted circle'
No comments deleted, but let's drop the AI derail please.

Mod note on 'Amid the gloom, glad tidings.'
No deletions made so far, but let's avoid comments like the halal food cart above. Ascribing stereotypical characteristics to a place or people is, indeed, a micro aggression.

warriorqueen: "Just a note that I went to post twice in succession and did get notification that I'd posted very recently - I assume this is in the range of 2 hours or whatever but it's not quite immediate."
Yes, there's a one hour delay between being able to post, see earlier comment. Otherwise, there should not be a delay.

Previous username Jacen: "Have we confirmed if Gorgik is indeed still alive, and a member of the board? That's not a facetious or sarcastic question, I genuinely don't think he's posted anywhere in a month or two"
Gorgik is indeed alive and still a member of the Board.

You absolutely need to stop doing this. Nowhere on the site is a place for performance art. If you keep doing this, it may result in your account being denied access to the site.

Select for empathy, curiosity, ability to learn and problem solve in creative ways.
You'd remove most of those C.H.U.D.s forthwith."
The original comment has been removed, 'cause arguing for eugenics has racist background and has largely been discredited. Responses to this comment have been left as a reminder that this type of advocacy is not wanted or welcomed on MetaFilter.
Enturbulated, please take a break from the thread and if you return, cease the advocacy of eugenics.
Mod note on 'I trusted ChatGPT. Was I in the wrong here?'
Couple of comments removed.
1. This thread has nothing to do with politics, so there's no need to bring the President of the USA into this.

Those tags have been added.
Mod note on 'test'
No idea why this test post popped up today, it shouldn't have. It was a glitch, possibly the system having too many beans?
We're just gonna close this up hope this isn't a sign of the system becoming sentient.

One comment and it's response deleted. Cursing on the site is fine, but cursing at someone else is not okay.
Also, let's stop the derail and stop litigation elections and blaming people who didn't vote the way you wanted. Gyre,Gimble,Wabe, Esq. you've made your point, let the conversation move on.
